Norwich Dragons 6s 5 - 0 Beccles (02/11/24)
Beccles got off to a good start, and were unlucky not to go ahead within the first couple of minutes, when Tarnya’s shot hit the post. Unfortunately, this was probably the best chance at scoring Beccles had in the match, as they seldom worried the keeper for the rest of the game. There is no doubt that Dragons were the better side, but in true Beccles style, the team never gave up and everyone gave it their all. Dragons were very well organised, always had players available to pass to, and had the advantage of youth on their side. Dragons went ahead with 2 goals after 11 minutes in quick succession, and scored 2 more in the 25th and 27th minute, making the score 4-0 at half time.
The second half saw Beccles defend very well, with only one more goal being scored. Lesley Banks in goal, made some good saves. The defence had a lot to cope with and worked very hard. Dragons always positioned themselves very well, and often had players free. Beccles did play some good hockey and at times did some good short passes, but Dragons were always close by ready to intercept, making it very difficult for Beccles to keep possession. Beccles can take comfort from the fact that Dragons are currently top of the division, and that despite their best efforts, they were beaten by a better side, who regularly train and had the benefit of a coach calling out instructions from the side line.
