Dereham (4s) 1 - Beccles 4
23rd October 2021
It was great to see the smiles on the faces of the Beccles players, after their first win of the season, and after such an enjoyable game. Gemma Powell took on the Captaincy for the first time, and did a fine job. This was a very even game, well certainly in the first half anyway, with Beccles opening the scoring after just 4 minutes through Debbie Mann, only for Dereham to equalise 4 minutes later and this score remained up to half time. It was great to welcome Ellie Kirby back and what a game she had, even though she had to play on the right, she gelled well with the rest of the team and helped create lots of opportunities. Marie Seymour played despite not fully recovering from injury, and was a great asset. Karen Ingate, Ali Foreman and Jodie Sharp all saw plenty of action and all had very good games. It was so nice to see Beccles being allowed to show off their skills and create lots of scoring opportunities against a young Dereham side. Both teams came out for the second half determined to score more goals, but it was Beccles who created and converted more chances. Debbie Mann put Beccles ahead after 14 minutes, and got her third when Jodie Sharp’s quickly taken long corner was dribbled the compulsory 5 metres, before sending it into the D, where Debbie Mann struck the ball hard into the goal. The Beccles defence, Mandy Kirby, Danie Riches, Ali Foreman Sara Grant, did a sterling job, preventing any further goals, with Hannah Devine fighting hard in front of goal, to give Beccles their 4th and final goal, making it a 1-4 win!
