Beccles 1 - Watton (2) 4

31st October 2020

After a quick rearrangement of positions, following reduced numbers from 14 players to 12, Beccles had a cracking first half against Watton 2’s who were lying joint top of division 1. Ali Foreman, playing yet another different position for this week’s game, took up the centre back spot, and she played a blinder. Felicity Turner, playing only her second game of the season, did really well at left back.

Beccles certainly surprised Watton who were probably expecting an easier game, but Watton eventually opened the scoring after 14 minutes. Beccles equalised 7 minutes later, when Ruth Swann crossed the ball, and Helen Hopley positioned on the far corner of the goal post, picked up the ball from the keeper’s clearance and battled with a defender before slotting it home to draw level. With half time looming, Watton got their second goal, so went in 2-1 ahead.

The second half was tougher as when Watton pressed forward, they attacked in numbers. Karen Ingate had an excellent game at right mid, constantly battling for possession. The defence coped very well with the pressure especially Ruth Swann who seemed to be involved at all times, covering lots of ground. Sara Grant in defence went off with an injury but thankfully Beccles had a sub.

Beccles finally succumbed to the Watton pressure and scored two goals in the late into the game. Beccles should be very proud of the way they played together as a team, and how they stepped up to the challenge.

Team: Lorraine, Sara Ruth, Felicity, Ali, Karen, Jodie, Emma, Hannah E, Helen, Gemma & Debbie
