This was Beccles’ first home game of the season since their move to Langley and they celebrated with an amazing win over East Coast 3’s. New player Danie Riches made her debut for the club, returning to hockey after several years. Sara Grant had to switch from sweeper to Centre Back for this match and provided a sterling job. The players gelled well together again as a team, with everyone enjoying the game. Beccles started well, pressing the oppositions defence, and had a few close chances before East Coast stepped up their game onto the attack.
Sarah Webster dominated the mid field for Beccles, assisted by Hannah Eaton and young Anya Clarke and between the three of them they covered nearly every part of the pitch. Two minutes before half time Sarah Webster picked up the ball in the midfield and meandered her way passed the opposition into the D where her excellent on target strike was deflected high into the goal by an East Coast 3’s defender. East Coast had their 11th player turn up for the 2nd half, but it was not until the last 10 minutes of the game that they really pressed for a goal. However, Beccles held strong taking all 3 points and an excellent win for the team with a further boost in these early games of the season.
