In a clash against the current unbeaten Division leaders Broadland 2, Beccles knew they had a tough task but they had 12 players to call upon. Beccles had a few short corners but could not convert the pressure into goals but on 18 minutes a pass deflected into the path of Debbie Mann who coolly reverse flicked the ball past the keeper into the top corner of the net to take the lead.
With 4 minutes to go to half time Broadland 2 had an attack down their right and passed to a player in the D who drilled the ball home to level the score. Beccles started the second half on top playing some fantastic hockey with lovely precise passing and from one of these moves a short corner resulted. The ball was fed to Maxine Gibbs at the top of the D who powered the ball into the net making the score 2-1 to Beccles. The home side continued to look the more likely to score with Sarah Webster bossing the midfield and making key interceptions.
On 20 minutes Hannah Eaton burst down the right side evading two defenders and drove into the D and beat the keeper with a reverse stick shot to make the final score 3-1 to Beccles. The goals were well executed and this was some of the best hockey Beccles have played, especially given they fielded 3 players who have joined this season, one on debut. The game showed that given a full squad Beccles can more than hold their own in this league and next they take on UEA3 at home this Saturday at 10.30 a.m.
