In the 3rd match of the season Beccles managed to muster 12 players against Norwich Dragons 5, the side that was promoted as winners of Division 2 of the Empresa Norfolk League alongside Beccles as runners up . Having lost and drew against them last season, Beccles knew given that they had a full squad and a substitute, that they had a good chance of making it count.
The first half was end to end with Norwich Dragons thinking they had scored first, but the ball had not crossed the line. Beccles had an attack and after a goal mouth scramble the ball fell to Sarah Webster who scored. Later Beccles had an attack down the right and Debbie Mann’s shot was saved but she picked up the rebound and passed to Hannah Eaton near the left post who tucked it away to make it 0-2 at half time.
Beccles expected Dragons to come out strong in the second half but the defence held firm, Dragons were switching positions a lot so Beccles tended to zone mark with Amy Thornton as sweeper marshalling the defence and distributing the ball well to midfield for counter attacks. Dragons could not pierce the Beccles defence and so it finished 0-2 to Beccles although it could have been more if not for the Dragons keeper. Beccles are at home next week to the current leaders of the division Broadland 2s starting at 12
