Beccles went straight into a league game this season so the majority of players were finding their feet after the summer break. With Beccles gaining promotion to division 1, and Diss narrowly missing out on promotion to the premier last season, the visitors knew this was going to be a tough match. Despite the score line, and only being able to field 10 players, Beccles did themselves proud against a well organised Diss side. Diss went 2-0 up fairly early on, but Beccles pulled one back, when new recruit Riann White’s perseverance meant that she was able to keep possession of the ball and managed to get it to Hannah Eaton who scored.
Diss scored again during the first half giving them a 3-1 lead at the break. Ali Foreman at centre mid, and Hannah Eaton, left mid, both worked tirelessly throughout the game, as they defended and attacked with vengeance. There were some excellent hit outs from Max Gibbs in defence, finding space up front, but unfortunately Beccles were not able to capitalise on them. With Diss attacking in numbers Beccles defended as well as they could with 18 year old Hannah Roberts having an excellent game at centre back with her timely tackles and clearance of the ball. However, Diss took advantage of the counter attack, manoeuvred round the Beccles defenders and tallied up three more goals in the second half making it 6-1. Beccles pulled one back through Hannah Eaton who stretched out to connect with the ball and sent a cracking shot high into the goal. Diss scored once more before full time making the final score 7-2.
This week Beccles are at home to Lowestoft Railway 1.30pm start
