The match started comfortably for Beccles and the team progressed with the ball into City’s half. With a couple of near misses Beccles retained their drive for a win. The moment came and Debbie Mann received the ball at the top of the D; this time surrounded by frantic City players Mann skilfully worked the ball to her favour and secured the first goal of the match.
City continued in their efforts to make a mark on the game. Beccles remained focused and rallied forward with the ball. The ball was shot into the D, reflected and went high. As the ball fell from the sky Charlie Calladine held her nerve and timed her strike well to ensure that the ball went safely into the back of the net. City were now firing on all cylinders and the ball was creeping into the Beccles half, Brenda Thompson was chasing down every attack that came her way; but by half time City had scored.
Throughout the game Sarah Webster persistently chased the ball and was able to make some indomitable runs up the pitch. The opposition also persevered and impeded Sarah’s hard work.
The second half and City pushed forward; Beccles responded with players stretching their positions to cover most of the pitch; Ali Foreman running back to help clear balls out of the D and Becky Clough making several breaks from defence, running vigorously into mid field with the ball.
Beccles staunch supporters continued to rally for the team; but with City’s experienced players guiding the burgeoning younger players they managed close the game with a 2-2 draw.
Beccles will travel away again to Watton Sports Association to play Watton 3s at 11.30am on Saturday 10th October.
