With the league starting earlier than normal this season, Beccles only had this one opportunity to play a pre-season friendly game in September and this was played against a mixture of 1st and 2nd team players from Loddon. As is usual when these two sides meet, the game was played in a good friendly atmosphere. Beccles were able to field their strongest mid field players for this game, with Ali Foreman, Jodie Sharp and Sarah Webster, all helping to control the game from here.
Sara Grant moved position to centre back, and adapted well with her timely tackles and distribution of the ball. Beccles finishing was a bit rusty after the summer break, with several missed chances but they did hit the post on at least 3 occasions. They managed to score 3 goals before half time, one each from Debbie Mann, Jodie Sharp and Sarah Webster. Beccles increased their lead with Sarah Webster scoring her second goal of the game to put Beccles 4-0 up.
Aimee Konieczny had a very good game in goal for Loddon especially as this is not her normal role. A change of tactics for Loddon, in the second half, gave them more scoring opportunities and it was not long before they scored a good consolation goal making the final score 4.1. This game was not so much about the scoreline, and more about enjoying hockey and getting match fitness for the start of the league on 12th September.
