With two call offs Beccles could only field 10 players for their first division 2 league game of the season. Beccles started better and kept possession well for the first 10 minutes until North Norfolk got into their stride. Beccles had their best opportunity to score when the ball was right in front of the goal, but the oppositions defence somehow managed to clear.
Ali Forman and Hannah Eaton gave the opposition lots of problems as they constantly sped with the ball up the field, creating scoring chances with their superb fitness and ability. Hannah Roberts, normally in defence, played at right half and often halted the opposition with her timely tackling. It was her pass to Debbie Mann who scrambled the ball into the D to the well positioned Hannah Eaton to sweep the ball passed the keeper and give Beccles the lead.
North Norfolk came out even more determined in the second half, and at times put the Beccles defence under a lot of pressure. All the defence, Max Gibbs Amy Thornton Sara Grant Brenda Thompson and Ali Foreman worked very hard keeping the opposition away from the goal, with their excellent tackling and clearing of the ball. All the players had a very good game and did extremely well to absorb the pressure as North Norfolk strived to get something out of this game. However Beccles held on to their 1-0 lead and took all 3 points from the team that was relegated from division 1 at the end of last season.
This week Beccles are at Hobart for a 10.30am start against Magpies 6.
